The bus driver, from which the container carrying a flammable chemical material came off, fled the scene
At least 18 people died, and more were injured, in an accident on the Ciudad Victoria-Monterrey highway, in the northeastern Mexican state of Tamaulipas, when the passenger bus they were traveling in collided with a trailer carrying fuel. and caught fire. Apparently, the cause of the accident was the detachment of the tank. The truck driver fled the scene and is being sought by police.
The accident occurred in the early hours of this Saturday at 04:30 a.m. (09:30 GM), at the height of the San Francisco community, in the municipality of Hidalgo, state of Tamaulipas, which caused the death of passengers who were heading to the city from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.
According to versions, the full passenger bus, with about 40 seats, collided with the double trailer that was transporting a flammable chemical material called varsol, a mixture of aliphatic hydrocarbons derived from petroleum.
The report delivered by the Tamaulipas Public Security Secretariat points out that a person is being investigated, presumably the operator of the cargo truck, who apparently fled the scene, to establish whether he is responsible for the event.
The Prosecutor’s Office contributed in its investigation that the crash was caused by the possible detachment of the container, loaded with a chemical, which was transported to Ciudad Victoria, while the passenger truck was traveling to the territory of Nuevo León.
It is presumed that the impact caused the explosion that triggered a fire from which the users of the unit could not escape.
The Hidalgo state government ordered resources to support the families of the deceased, some from the Huejutla community, and has also offered transportation to Tamaulipas to carry out the legal procedures in order to recover their remains.
