This Saturday, September 10, Charles III is officially proclaimed the new King and Head of State of the United Kingdom, during a ceremony at St. James’s Palace in London. The day before, the monarch gave a speech in which he promised to serve all citizens above his beliefs and continue with the constitutional values followed by his mother Elizabeth II.
historical change. Carlos III, 73 years old, becomes the new leader of the British monarchy. The sovereign assumes the new role amid the shock and official mourning for the departure of Elizabeth II, the monarch who, with more than seven decades on the throne, held the longest reign in history.
The eldest son of the longest-serving queen is formally proclaimed the new king, a position for which he has been preparing all his life, in a televised accession ceremony for the first time of the Ascension Council, at St James’s Palace, in London.
The group in charge of the proclamation is made up of privy councilors who have advised the sovereign since the Norman era. They are now part of some 670 senior politicians, including Prime Minister Liz Truss.
The event is also attended by high-ranking clerics, the mayor of the British capital, senior officials and commissioners from the other 14 kingdoms that have the monarch as head of state.
