More than 20 concerts dedicated to the memory of the great jazzman will be held in Chita, Petrovsk-Zabaykalsky, Krasnokamensk, Nerchinsk, Sretensk and other cities of Transbaikalia from September 20 to November 12. The artistic director of the Oleg Lundstrem Festival, violinist Pyotr Lundstrem, told Izvestia about this.
He noted that the festival will be held in Transbaikalia, because Oleg and his brother Igor were born in Chita. Since 1921, they lived in Harbin, where in 1934 they founded their own jazz orchestra, glorified their name to the whole world, and when in 1947 it was announced that the Soviet Union was opening its doors to all its citizens who wanted to return, they did not thinking for a second, boarded the ferry to Nakhodka.
“Uncle Oleg, as we called him, always said: “I want to be useful to my homeland, I want to do the best of what I can.” He is a true jazz classic. If he was doing something else, then he would have been a classic there, ”Peter Lundstrem shared.
According to him, a major cultural forum dedicated to all facets of Oleg Leonidovich’s personality will be held in Transbaikalia. Three blocks are expected: jazz, classical and theater. The Moscow Jazz Orchestra conducted by Igor Butman and the Oleg Lundstrem Jazz Orchestra, as well as the younger generation of musicians, will perform.
The classical program will be presented by the Russian National Orchestra conducted by Nikolai Tsinman. Within the framework of the festival, a creative meeting “Music and the Word” with the writer Zakhar Prilepin will take place. In addition, the audience will see the performance of the Irkutsk Drama Theater “Farewell to Matera” based on the story of the same name by Valentin Rasputin. The final event will be the production of “12” by the Theater and Cinema Center under the direction of Nikita Mikhalkov.
