Austin Evans, a well-known YouTuber dedicated to the tech world with over 5.3 million subscribers, has proposed a new one PS5 “teardown” videoprecisely of the model CFI-1200. We are talking about the most recent version of the console which is available in Australia from the end of August 2022. Evans explains that the internal design of the console has changed considerably.
Evans points out that the new PS5 model has a motherboard “totally different”, considerably smaller than that of the previous models.
The heatsink of the new PS5 model is even smaller than that of the CFI-1100 model (the second released by Sony), but contains a heat pipe that passes through the other side of the system. Evans also noted that the SSD housing now has “better” protection.
Together, the changes to the motherboard and the heatsink cause a weight reduction over 0.2 kg, but the black plastic mold of the console was equipped with an additional support that slightly increased its weight.
Evans also claims that the new model has a more efficient energy consumption: During a test in which all three test consoles played Astro’s Playroom, the launch model of PS5 drew around 218 watts of electricity, last year’s CFI-1100 model around 229 watts, and the new CFI-1200 only 201 watts.
However, Evans’ analysis of the new PS5 model it is not entirely positive. Evans also points out that “they have moved virtually every component, including the CMOS battery which is now completely hidden by the heatsink.” Evans says: “Previously it could have been swapped out fairly easily if needed, but now the PS5 has to be completely disassembled, which is certainly a downside.”
Always talking about PS5, we point out that the update of September 2022 is available, adds the 1440p, the lists of games and more.
