The United States intends to soon announce the candidacy of a new ambassador to the Russian Federation. This was announced on Sunday, September 4, by the US State Department.
It is noted that the United States intends to maintain diplomatic contacts with Russia to manage tensions in the midst of the crisis in Ukraine.
Earlier in the day, it became known that US Ambassador John Sullivan completed his work as ambassador to Russia and left Moscow.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov urged everyone to get more information about Sullivan’s departure to contact the Russian Foreign Ministry.
It is known that until the arrival of the successor, the duty of charge d’affaires of the US embassy will be performed by Elizabeth Rude.
The American diplomatic mission noted that Sullivan intends to end his 40-year career as a civil servant. During this time, he served under five US Presidents, including Acting Deputy Secretary of State, and also held senior positions in the Ministries of Justice, Defense and Commerce.
Prior to that, on September 4, the European Union (EU) replaced the head of the representative office in Russia. Previously, the post was held by German diplomat Markus Ederer, he left Moscow. The ex-Ambassador of France to Malaysia, Roland Galyarag, was appointed to the vacant post.
The fact that Ederer resigned became known on September 2. His last working day was August 31st. According to the diplomat, he leaves the post with a calm mind.
