Hunter Biden, son of US President Joe Bidenis in the focus of part of the public opinion of that country for a allegedly sensitive information that would have been found on a laptop. The story was revealed months ago by a media outlet, but it was rejected by the authorities and social networks limited the publication.
Mark Zuckerberg, owner of Meta -the conglomerate that encompasses Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger-, accepted that the report was blocked from his platform as they had been informed by the FBI -as in other cases- while the 2020 US presidential campaign was taking place.
“We just thought, ‘Look, if the FBI, which I still see as a legitimate institution in this country, is a very professional law enforcement, comes to us and tells us that we need to be on guard about something, then take it. seriously,’” he revealed in a chat with host Joe Regan.
The news published by the newspaper ‘New York Post’ indicates that Hunter’s computer supposedly has hundreds of emails and material that would show, according to them, how Biden’s son “took advantage of his political access in his business abroad.”
What is Facebook doing to combat misinformation?
People have a hard time accepting that some Meta team or that I personally are making these decisions
Zuckerberg said his “protocol is different from Twitter’s.” If they suspect that certain posts on the network are disinformation, they validate the issue with third parties, but Facebook does not directly decide “what is true and what is false”.
“Facebook distribution is down, but people still have the ability to share the post and consume it. (…) The position in the news wall is a little lower”, he commented.
(Also: John McAfee would have faked his death, according to his ex-girlfriend).
– When something like this turns out to be real, is there regret for not having distributed it evenly and limiting the distribution? Regan questioned, taking the Hunter Biden news as an example.
– Yeah, it sucks. After fact checkers investigated, no one could tell that it was fake. However, I think he sucks in the same way that she probably has to go through a criminal trial to prove her innocence. In the end, it sucks,” the tycoon reiterated.
So, for him, it is not good that his company decides what is a lie; therefore, they go to other organizations verifying information.
“I think the right path is to establish governance principles that try to be balanced and not have too centralized decision-making. People have a hard time accepting that some Meta team or that I personally are making these decisions”, he concluded.

Why would the Hunter Biden case have been banned?
After the publication of emails and the formulation of various accusations against Joe Biden and his son, the newspaper ‘New York Post’ denounced censorship by other media and technological platforms. For example, Twitter suspended his profile.
“Nobody on the Biden team denied the ‘New York Post’ report,” said Kyle Smith, a columnist for the newspaper.

Among the remarks, Hunter, for example, is said to have introduced him to his dad, Joe Biden, a top executive at an energy company in Ukraine. Then, “Biden pressured government officials in that country to fire a prosecutor who was investigating the company,” according to the ‘New York Post’.
The laptop in which this email and many others would have been found, in addition to documents from the Biden family, was seized by the FBI since 2019. Until today, the authorities have not specified what it contains.
