Kuusiloota normally has four sheep, but now there are only three.
Helsinki A sheep has disappeared from the popular outdoor island Kuusiluoto. There are normally four sheep on the island, but now there are only three sheep.
The cultural-ecological club of Vanhankaupunki (VKEK), which protects the nature and cultural values of the Kuusiluoto area, has been bringing free-grazing summer sheep to the island for about 20 years.
Jouni Viitala VKEK said that he last saw the fourth sheep in Kuusiluoto on Tuesday at around 9:30 p.m.
“One of the island’s regulars noticed on Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. that there are only three sheep,” Viitala said on Thursday evening.
Club was informed of the sheep’s disappearance on Wednesday morning. After that, the island was explored, but the sheep was not found. The club also posted questions about the sheep in Facebook groups in the surrounding area, but they have not yielded results.
“Sheep don’t swim. So the sheep could not have swum away from the island. It is possible that the sheep has fallen off the platform and drowned. The lost sheep is 12 years old. Maybe the sheep has had an attack of illness and died in a tricky place”, Viitala reflects.
The sheep could also have disappeared due to sheep theft.
“I think it is unlikely that a sheep could be brought to the mainland along long trees. The island is popular with hikers, and there is quite a lot of traffic on the pine trees even late in the evening. Sheep thieves would have attracted the attention of other passers-by. One possibility is that the sheep would have been taken by boat.”
“All in all, a mysterious thing.”
Viitalan According to Kuusiluoto Island, no sheep have disappeared before.
“In 2019, one sheep had a broken leg, and the sheep had to be euthanized.”
