The resignation of the general secretary and three other members of the management forces to start up a manager to elect the new executive
The anger of the mayor of La Unión, the socialist Pedro López, against the jury of the Festival del Cante de las Minas has led to a crisis in the local PSOE. The general secretary of the group, Domingo Alajarín, and three other components of the party’s leadership – made up of nine members – presented their resignation yesterday as a result of this controversy, arguing “lack of confidence.”
Since the incident became known, the differences became evident within the Union PSOE. To questions from THE TRUTH, Alajarín did not want to make any kind of statement last night; he limited himself to confirming the meeting of the executive and refused to specify what agreements had been adopted, due to the climate of “maximum tension” that exists. These resignations force the start-up of a manager, according to the statutes, and “as soon as possible, an assembly will be held to elect the new general secretary and the new executive,” PSRM sources indicated.
The head of the PSOE in the region, José Vélez, stated, through a spokesman, that he has “full confidence” in the mayor and the government team. And he charged against the Popular Party, which he accused of “wanting to cover up the great work that the local executive is doing with a matter that is of no more importance after the mayor apologized.”
The mayor saves his disapproval in plenary, but the PP insists on his criticism because “he tried to coerce to change the list of winners”
In the plenary session held in the morning, the mayor assured on five occasions that “I did not lie to anyone, nor did I coerce the jury” on August 6 in the final of the Cante de las Minas, when he went up to the meeting room, where they were deliberating, and mounted a drill on them. He apologized for his action and insisted that it was a “human error”, that “it will not be repeated”, although he did not give specific details of why he rebuked the jurors or what he told them.
López made these statements moments before saving the rejection of the Plenary, as the Municipal Group of the PP had requested in a motion, for that altercation. He avoided it thanks to eight votes against the PSOE (he refused to vote), two abstentions from Ciudadanos and three in favor of the PP (the other three mayors of this formation did not attend).
The Plenary meeting was held surrounded by maximum tension between the municipal groups, as a result of the chain of resignations of members of the festival jury, after the incident with the mayor, who addressed them in very bad ways after concluding his deliberations .
The Municipal Group of the PSOE defended the mayor in plenary, because in the opinion of the spokeswoman, Elena Lozano, “it was a human error” that the PP “has fed like carrion.” She lamented “the dramatization” that has been made of “this tragic series” and insisted that the councilor “has already apologized.” In her opinion, the only thing the popular formation wants “is to get a slice.”
The PP spokesman, Joaquín Zapata, criticized that “the mayor is not capable of recognizing that he went up to the jury to rebuke him, coerce him and modify the list of winners” and that he “lies” when he says that he did it to demand that the jury issue the verdict “when the reality is that he reproached them for the ruling with shouts and insults”. And he said that López’s intervention on the day of the final “has no protection” and that “he has given the festival the death knell.” He also asked for his resignation. The spokeswoman for Ciudadanos, Verónica Vegas, requested an investigation commission
López, who was the last to speak, did not stay for the vote, and it was Elena Lozano who was in charge of directing it. Before leaving, she declared that “this persecution is out of place” and that “if you think that you are going to undermine my will to continue leading this City Council, you are wrong. I will continue working for La Unión.”
