The gravity-defying adventure is the latest video game IP that Sony Pictures wants to adapt.
In May 2019, the creation of the PlayStation Productions label in Sony Pictures was announced, a declaration of intent by the Hollywood major of its intentions to bring some of the franchises of its video game division to the small and big screen. Uncharted has since hit theaters and HBO’s The Last of Us is soon to come, but the company has other IPs in mind as well.
For example, developing a Gravity Rush film. The video game seems today forgotten by PlayStation Studios, even more so after the Japan Studio changes, but that does not have to indicate a low desire from Sony Pictures to turn “the adventure that defies gravity” into one of its feature films on going.
Always according to information from Deadline, one of the main film portals, Sony Pictures works in collaboration with Scott Free Productions (founded by Ridley Scott and Tony Scott in 1980) to be made into a film the video game starring Katan amnesiac girl with the ability to manipulate gravity.
The project is going well, and they would have already signed Anna Mastro (The secret club of the non-heirs to the throne) and Emily Jerome as director and screenwriter respectively. At the moment no further details are known, but Deadline drops that Sony Pictures does not have to distribute the film; that is, it could reach a streaming service directly, but at the moment little else can be said.
Meanwhile, you can take a look at the analysis of Gravity Rush: Remastered for PS4. The original title was released on PS Vita. Who knows if with the development of a film, and its potential success, PlayStation will be encouraged to give continuity to the IP.
The interest of PlayStation Productions in a Days Gone movie that already has a protagonist and a screenwriter was also recently shared on Deadline.
