Commemoration of the organ is part of the celebrations of 200 years of Brazilian independence
The plane with the heart of d. Pedro 1º (1798-1834), 1st Emperor of Brazil, landed at the Brasília Air Base shortly before 10 am this Monday (22.Aug.2022). The arrival of the organ is part of the celebrations of 200 years of independence.
The body was received with Head of State Honors. It is the 1st time that the heart leaves Portugal since the death of d. Pedro 1º, 187 years ago.
The president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was expected at the ceremony at the Air Base, but did not attend the event. Ministers Marcelo Queiroga (Health) and Paulo Sérgio Nogueira de Oliveira (Defense). The plane with the heart of d. Pedro 1º was escorted by 2 FAB (Brazilian Air Force) fighters.
On Tuesday (23.Aug), at 5 pm, the Palácio do Planalto holds a ceremony, with a climb up the ramp and military honors to receive the organ. It should also have the participation of the Dragons of Independence and the presentation of Brazilian anthems. President Bolsonaro is expected to attend the event.
Between the arrival and the ceremony on Tuesday (23.Aug), at Palácio do Planalto, the heart will be kept in the Itamaraty itself, in Brasília.
After the ceremony on the Plateau, the emperor’s heart returns to the Itamaraty, where it will be displayed in the Sala Santiago Dantas, heated to serve as an exhibition and crypt. The exhibition, initially, will be for officials and guests of the diplomatic corps.
