Mario Draghi: undoubtedly he is the most awaited character at the Rimini Meeting, who has already put in the game bag the messages of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and Pope Francis, the intervention of the EU Commissioner for the Economy Paolo Gentiloni, the video of the president of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, the day that today saw Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, president of the CEI and therefore of the Italian bishops as protagonist; and preparing to host party leaders.
For the outgoing premier it is a sort of return to that stage that somehow launched his call to Palazzo Chigi by the Quirinale: back then, it was August 2020, the intervention of the former governor before the Bank Italy and then the ECB was applauded by the CL people and by the thousands of people who flocked to the Rimini Fair, where the Meeting traditionally takes place. And everything points to the hypothesis that even on 24 August, one month after the political elections caused by the early fall of his government, many will clap their hands at the one who is still defined by many Italians as ‘Super Mario’.
“The fact that President Draghi returns to the Meeting has the sense of a testimony – Bernhard Scholz, the president of the ciellina kermesse declared in recent days – In other words, that politics has dignity and can be relaunched if it builds solutions and responses for the national community. Here, applauded for a long time, Draghi then gave us a profound message: in political choices we must look to the future, to the generations to come, to general interests before particular ones “.
Draghi will in some way, if he so wishes, also have the opportunity to reply to the political and electoral debate that will take place the day before and which will involve party leaders of the caliber of Giorgia Meloni, Enrico Letta, Matteo Salvini, Luigi Di Maio, Antonio Tajani , Ettore Rosato, with Carlo Calenda who will speak in the following days and with Giuseppe Conte and Matteo Renzi the only ones absent, at least for the moment and except for last-minute surprises.
And before the national leaders, it will be the turn of the regional governors, as many as eight: Luciano Fontana from Lombardy, Nello Musumeci from Sicily, Giovanni Toti from Liguria, Eugenio Giani from Tuscany, Francesco Acquaroli from Marche, Donatella Tesei from Umbria, Maurizio Fugatti from Trentino and Stefano Bonaccini from Emilia-Romagna, in some way ‘master of the house’.
