PDT candidate quoted First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro’s sentence that the Planalto has already been “consecrated to demons”
The PDT presidential candidate, Ciro Gomes, criticized on Friday (19.Aug.2022) the use of religion to guide political discourse. “Are we going to bring the Taliban here?”, questioned the former governor during a campaign in Rio de Janeiro. The group that has controlled Afghanistan since 2021 applies a radical interpretation of Islam.
Ciro quoted a phrase by First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro when talking about the topic. On August 7, the president’s wife Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said that the Plateau has already been “consecrated to demons” before her husband assumed the Presidency of the Republic. The speech took place at a religious service in Belo Horizonte (MG). Bolsonaro attended the event.
For Ciro Gomes, the people’s faith cannot be “stolen” by politicians and candidates.
“If we allow a first lady of the country to say that the supporter of the other political force is a supporter of the devil, we are introducing in Brazil the violence that has already killed many millions of people in humanity. Are we going to bring the Taliban here?”said the pedestrian.
“THEY USE THE NAME OF GOD IN VAIN”
Ciro Gomes criticized the use of religion in the electoral dispute. On Wednesday (Aug 17), the candidate for the Planalto said that right and left “use the name of God in vain”. The statement on social networks was made after the president of the PT, the deputy Gleisi Hoffmann (RS), comparing Bolsonaro to Lula in relation to religious faith.
“When the speech of the left resembles the fascism of the worst of the right, the use in vain of the Name of God already carries a strong punishment. To show that the two sides – and their two leaders – are becoming equal.”published Ciro Gomes in his profile on twitter.
Bolsonaro’s campaign has focused on the religious agenda in search of reelection. It is one of the main bases of support for the president. According to research PowerDate held from August 14 to 16, Bolsonaro has 52% among voters who declare themselves to be evangelicals, a religion followed by first lady Michelle Bolsonaro – who gained space in the campaign to also attract a female audience.
The survey was carried out by PowerDategroup company Power 360 Journalism, with its own resources. The results are published in an editorial partnership with the TV Cultura. Data were collected from August 14 to 16, 2022, through calls to cell phones and landlines. There were 3,500 interviews in 331 municipalities in the 27 units of the Federation. The margin of error is 2 percentage points. The confidence interval is 95%. The TSE registration is BR-02548/2022.
