RT: Fedorov proposed to attract foreign agents for discrediting the Armed Forces immediately under a criminal article
State Duma deputy Yevgeny Fedorov proposed to bring foreign agents to criminal liability for discrediting the Armed Forces (AF) of Russia, bypassing the administrative article. On Thursday, August 18, reports RT with reference to a copy of the letter to Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov.
As the parliamentarian noted in his address, with the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, some people began to make public statements in order to discredit the Russian army. At the same time, so-called foreign agents play an important role in such actions, Fedorov pointed out.
Now in Russia there are two articles for discrediting the army – administrative and criminal. Those who committed this action for the first time are brought under an administrative article, for a repeated similar action within a year – already under a criminal one.
Fedorov proposes to supplement Part 1 of Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code of Russia and bring to justice not only those who repeatedly committed public actions during the year aimed at discrediting the Russian army, but also persons recognized as performing the function of a foreign agent, as well as those representing the governing bodies of NGOs -foreign agents, bypassing the administrative article.
In early March, the State Duma passed a law criminalizing the dissemination of fake news about the Russian Armed Forces. The maximum penalty for it is up to 15 years in prison.
