With the entry into force of the new traffic law this 2022, several changes have been put in place for motorists in the use of helmets or speed limits
This summer will be different on the road, since with the entry into force of the new traffic law there are several changes that the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has adopted in its regulations and in the sanctions it imposes. As for the motorcycles, it is a series of quite significant modifications that affect speed, the use of electronic devices or the sanctions if you break the regulations.
Although most of the new features have been implemented for all types of vehicles, motorists should know how these DGT changes affect them. The new traffic law was launched on March 21 and includes new regulations to protect the environment and reduce pollution, regularize the autonomous vehicle, and, of course, bet on road safety with tougher sanctions, which now entails losing more points from the driving license. From now on, you will have to take into account all these new features when you use the motorcycle. These are all the new regulations, changes and novelties in the regulations of the DGT and the sanctions that you are interested in knowing if you have a motorcycle and are going to travel with it in the summer.
Use the mobile while driving
This dangerous behavior was already a sanction, but it increases the points that can be taken from you if you are caught with your mobile in your hand while driving the car or motorcycle. Go from 3 to 6 points if you use mobile phone devices. A measure that maintains the same fine of 200 euros. In this way, the aim is to reduce road mortality, since, according to Traffic, since 2016 distractions at the wheel are the leading cause of fatal accidents.
not wearing a helmet
The DGT focuses on the basic security elements, since worrying data is still being released with a very simple gesture that saves lives. In the case of four-wheel vehicles, it is estimated that 1 in 4 deaths in traffic accidents still do not use a seat belt. From now on, if the driver of the motorcycle and his companion do not wear the helmet or wear it incorrectly, it will cost them the loss of 4 points (previously there were 3) and a fine of 200 euros. The same goes for child restraint systems, popularly known as baby seats.
The possibility of exceeding 20 km/hour is eliminated
Until now, passenger cars and motorcycles could exceed the speed limit of 20 km/hour to overtake other vehicles on conventional roads. The DGT considers this maneuver to be risky, which is why it justifies the new rule, which has become one of the most controversial of the 50 novelties included in the new traffic law.
throw butts
As a measure to reduce the environmental impact of cars and motorcycles, the number of points lost for throwing objects that can cause fires and accidents is increased. If you throw a cigarette butt while riding the motorcycle, they take 6 points off you (3 points before), and you are also fined 500 euros.
0 rate of alcohol in minors
An important change that must also be fulfilled this summer is the 0 alcohol rate for those under 18 who drive mopeds with an AM and A1 license, scooters and bicycles. Traffic considers that it is “logical and reasonable” to launch this new rule since if the sale of alcohol at that age is prohibited, it must be adjusted in the same way to driving.
Talk on the phone with wireless devices
It is already allowed to use certified or approved wireless devices that are incorporated in the helmet if you are going to talk on the phone. Traffic makes it clear that it should only be used for communication or navigation purposes if you have a motorcycle or moped.
