President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said he intended to launch his candidacy for reelection in São Paulo to boost former Minister of Infrastructure Tarcísio Freitas (PL), who will run for state government, but he backed off because he could not find a location with the necessary infrastructure. “We didn’t find the right place”, said the president during an interview with journalists in front of the Alvorada Palace, this Sunday, 17.
as showed the Political Broadcast, the launch of the plate will take place on July 24, a Sunday, at the Maracanãzinho gymnasium, in Rio de Janeiro. The PL, the president’s party, was looking for a space in São Paulo for the event. The strategy aimed to strengthen the Chief Executive in the largest electoral college in the country and also to give impetus to Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), Bolsonarista pre-candidate for governor. But the campaign did not find available venues for an event of the desired size, with around 10,000 people.
The president also said he will use the convention to compare Brazil’s economy to other countries and that he wants to appeal to young voters by showing people fleeing Cuba.
Senate dispute
Bolsonaro signaled that he does not intend to have the final word on the choice of the Senate candidate from Tarcísio’s ticket. The vacancy was left open after presenter José Luiz Datena withdrew from the dispute. “There are four names in the Senate race in SP. If I decide, I’ll make three enemies. Election to the Senate in SP is difficult; it’s like going to governor,” he said.
“The choice has to be by votes because the left will have a competitive candidate”, he added, referring to the fact that the name for the Senate on the ticket of Fernando Haddad (PT) will be the former governor Márcio França (PSB).
