Take measures in Los Belones and the 82 World Cup, a step prior to the installation of artificial turf before June 2023
The start of a topographical study in Los Belones and the 82 World Cup marks the countdown since Tuesday so that the land disappears from twelve football fields in Cartagena before June 2023. The project is valued at three million euros and was presented in the popular installation of the Cartagena neighborhood of San Ginés, with the presence of political officials and numerous directors of local grassroots football.
The company in charge of this project is Jumabeda. Its technicians began the topographical survey in Los Belones, a process of measuring and studying slopes that must be done before installing the artificial grass. This phase is relatively quick and it is expected that in a week it will also be finished in the 82 World Cup. This facility will become a “reference” in the municipality with three synthetic grass fields (eleven, seven and five football) and renovation of systems irrigation and LED lighting.
The priority use of the 82 World Cup will be the San Ginés Base Soccer School, which has ten clubs with around 200 players. The field is 40 years old and until now its maintenance was minimal by the different administrations, first the Murcian Federation and then the City Council. “This is historic. I don’t believe this is happening. We have suffered a lot with the kids. They have few resources and none pay anything. This will continue to be the case. I see that this is serious, after eight years of false hope”, commented, visibly moved, the president of the EF San Ginés Antonio Jiménez.
Synthetic grass must be introduced or renewed on twelve surfaces of twelve fields. It is necessary to cover 46,600 square meters, equivalent to six times the Cartagonova stadium. The calendar of the Jumabeda company is to carry out simultaneous works at the same time, starting with Los Belones, Mundial 82, the Mediterráneo Urbanization and Gómez Meseguer. The renovation is only partial in these last two cases, which already have artificial grass but it is old and they need a new one; also improve irrigation systems and some dependencies.
The goal is for eight of the twelve fields to be “practically finished” by 2022, provided that the works are not delayed by the supply of materials. In the 21st century there are 1,200 kids from 63 different teams who play football on dirt fields. The mayor, Noelia Arroyo, recognized that their conditions are “quite improvable” and was pleased that the parents of these players “will not believe that their children do not arrive crippled” for playing sports on the ground. Children from the EF San Ginés took a jar with soil from the 82 World Cup, as a souvenir.
San Anton, ready
To questions from THE TRUTH, Arroyo announced that the transfer of the San Antón field to Efesé is “closed” and that the idea is to take and approve the agreement in the “last Governing Board of this month.” The Albinegro team plans to bring all its bases there, install top quality synthetic grass, a grandstand and various rooms. The City Council will reserve time slots for Gimnástica Abad, the club in the San Antón neighborhood, in an agreement that the Councilor for Sports Álvaro Valdés hopes to finalize tomorrow, Wednesday.
