The Irish government will face a confidence vote on Tuesday, as the main opposition Sinn Féin party pushes to secure an early general election.
According to BA Media, the government in Dublin is confident that it has the votes needed to win the evening vote in Dale (the lower house of the Irish parliament).
Sinn Fein submitted a motion of no-confidence after the coalition of Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Green Party lost its parliamentary majority last week. In response, the government put forward a self-confidence motion in Dale at a later time.
The move would replace Sinn Fein’s proposal, with debate and vote on the government’s motion of confidence taking place instead.
