In the Ukraine war, Putin also uses mercenaries from Chechnya. A close confidante of Kadyrov now threatened a march all the way to Berlin.
Munich — After months of heavy fighting in the Ukraine conflict, Russia has taken over the entire Luhansk region after Vladimir Putin’s troops occupied the cities of Sievjerodonetsk and Lysychansk. Now the Russian military is attacking the Donetsk region with all its might. This map shows where the Ukraine war is raging.
Not only Russian soldiers are used in the Russian ground attacks. Chechen troops led by Putin ally Ramzan Kadyrov have been at the forefront since the invasion began. Apparently, their targets are not limited to Ukraine. A close confidante of Kadyrov expressed a desire to advance beyond the Ukrainian borders to Berlin.
War in Ukraine: Chechen commanders want to advance to Warsaw and Berlin
The Chechen mercenaries, known as “Kadyrovites”, proudly present their conquests in Ukraine and publish footage of the fighting. Chechen leader Magomed Daudov now commented on the fighting in Ukraine, targeting Germany. Daudov, who is said to be the speaker of the Chechen parliament and a close ally of Kadyrov, threatened an advance as far as Berlin and also claimed that they were defending the “values of Islam”. The US journalist Julia Davis published the recordings with English subtitles on Twitter.
Chechen parliament speaker Magomed Daudov says that first and foremost, Chechen battalions in Ukraine are fighting a jihad to defend Islam.

“There shouldn’t be any doubt. The People’s Republic of Donetsk, Mikolaiv, Kherson, Odessa – until Vladimir Putin stops us, God willing, we will advance to Berlin,” Daudov told reporters – in full combat gear and surrounded by his heavily armed mercenaries. He was also sure about a victory in the Ukraine war: “We will win, no doubt.”
Apti Alaudinov, the commander of the notorious Chechen unit “Akhmat” on the Russian side, echoed Daudov’s statements. In the program “60 Minutes” on the Russian state television Rossija-1, where there had previously been a nuclear weapons threat against Germany, he first declared Kyiv and then the Polish capital Warsaw as the next targets of the Russian attacks “as long as Putin does not order us to stop”. “Europe can only be brought to its knees” with a small number of troops, according to Alaudinov. NATO and the USA are already “nailed”.
Ukraine war: Kadyrovites want to defend “Islamic values” – Chechens on the Ukrainian side contradict
According to Daudov, Ukraine is also about the “defense of Islam”. Kadyrov and the Chechen units would “primarily defend Islam, Islamic values and the greatness of the Almighty.” In connection with this, Daudov spoke of a “jihad” in which Kadyrov played a major role. “It’s about our spiritual values and our language,” said Chechen leader Daudov.
Muslim Chechens and Tatars, who are fighting alongside Ukraine against the Russian invasion, are likely to clearly contradict these statements. From the very beginning of the war, they took up arms to fight against Putin’s troops. In 2015 they founded the battalions “Dhzokar Dudayev” and “Sheikh Mansour”.
“Dear Ukrainians, please do not consider these people as real Chechens. They are traitors, puppets of Russia,” Adam Osmayev, the leader of the Dhzokar Dudayev Battalion, was told by the Deutsche Welle quoted. True Chechens, unlike the Kadyrovites, would stand with Ukraine and “bleed with you.” Similarly, Muslim Cheberloevsky, commander of the Sheikh Mansur unit, told the Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak. He swore “revenge on Russia” and said of Kadyrov’s mercenaries: “They are also Russians and therefore our enemies. Kadyrov shows that he is a loyal soldier of Russia.” (bb)
