48 hours after the informal meeting between the president of the Colombian Football Federation (FCF), Ramón Jesurún; the Minister of Sports, Guillermo Herrera, and Fernando Jaramillo, president of the Dimayor, in full box of the Pascual Guerrero, in the debut of Colombia in the Copa América, the issue of the Women’s League is still in suspense.
Will there be a Women’s League?
The Federation and the ministry state that they maintain firm resources for their organization. The issue is that the teams affiliated with Dimayor, involved in a political struggle, have not completed the quorum of eight clubs established by the entity to organize the tournament.
“There were seven teams that confirmed. Then two got off, five remained. Nacional, América, Cali, Millonarios, Llaneros, Cortuluá, Bucaramanga and Pereira intended to participate. Of those, Nacional did not decide, and Bucaramanga and Llaneros dropped out, ”the president of Dimayor had explained in recent days.
The landscape today
On Sunday night, the initiative to play the League was still stalled. The president of the Dimayor, Fernando Jaramillo, in dialogue with EL TIEMPO, confirmed that only 4 teams have submitted their acceptance to play: Cali, América, Millonarios and Cortuluá.
Thus, it is expected that this Monday the issue can move forward and some clubs decide to join.

Regarding the time limit that Dimayor will take, Jaramillo said: “It has not been easy, it has been a process of having some resources promised by the Ministry of Sport and some sponsors, the problem is no longer one of resources to organize the championship; the problem It’s about club resources. Many have that problem… there are payrolls like the one in Santa Fe that costs 150 million pesos a month,” he said.
“It’s not that the clubs are against the Dimayor president, they may have objections, but they prefer to support women’s football,” he added. She reiterated that if the clubs want to play, and 8 teams come out, the tournament will be held.
Regarding the term that will be given to specify or rule out the League, Jaramillo assured: “I am going to give myself a space, remember that there is a limitation in the calendar for the Copa Libertadores in October, it would be a short league, from August to October. Let’s see if in the course of the week we can decide something.”
He pointed out that in 2023 there will be “surely” two semesters with two important leagues.
For her part, Vanessa Córdoba, a Colombian soccer player who returns from abroad to join Cali, said: “It cuts short the development of the athletes. She returns with the idea that it is going to be a different league, women’s soccer gives results, the issue that does not allow development is that there are no trustworthy environments to promote investment… It is a matter of planning so that the teams can sell women’s football”.
Against this background, Carlos González Puche, executive director of Acolfutpro, stated: “There are resources, there is no desire for dialogue because only one party makes the rules, that does not happen in Spain, Italy, England… What do the clubs that compete in the second league if the quotas for the Libertadores are already there, What other benefit are they going to get to convene their campuses? This is planning a tournament for at least six months to start that tournament.”the leader wondered.
