The head of Roslesinforg Chashchin: the export of Russian timber will not suffer due to the EU ban
The Russian timber industry complex (TIC) will not suffer too much due to the European Union (EU) ban on supplies, since it is focused on export to friendly countries, the process will not stop. So the director of Roslesinforg Pavel Chashchin commented on the entry into force on Sunday, July 10, of the EU ban on the supply of Russian timber as part of the fifth package of sanctions, reports TASS.
“The Russian timber industry was already focused on friendly markets, and where there were restrictions, it was already partially reorganized. The process of establishing new export channels will continue,” Chashchin said. He stressed that “the market will strive for balance both on the external contour and within the country”, it may take some time, but exports will not stop.
As the head of the department explained, 70 percent of the volume of deliveries in the first half of the year fell on friendly Asian countries, primarily China and Uzbekistan, which increased purchases by almost 13 percent. In recent months, suppliers have redirected about 20 percent of exports from Europe to new markets. Thus, supply flows have increased to the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America, he pointed out.
Chashchin added that in the new economic realities, attention to the domestic market will grow. “Saturation of the domestic market as a whole has already occurred, which was manifested by a decrease in prices,” he concluded.
