Representative of Delovaya Rossiya Tarasyuk: in order to maintain the production of pellets, they must be transported to Asia
In order to maintain the production of wood pellets in Russia, the so-called pellets, it is necessary to change the sales market, redirect goods from Europe to Asia, primarily to South Korea and Japan. About this in comments “Izvestia” said the head of the subcommittee on the forest industry of the organization “Business Russia”, the director of “Angara Les” Sergei Tarasyuk.
According to him, enterprises producing pellets in Russia were focused on the EU countries. Timber merchants saw the product as a way to recycle sawmill waste and transition to a waste-free wood processing model.
A quick reorientation to other markets is hindered primarily by logistical difficulties. Fuel pellets must be sent to Asian countries in dry cargo lots of 10,000 to 30,000 tons, but the accumulation of such lots requires infrastructure in ports in the Far East, the representative of the organization noted.
In addition, transportation there will be 20-50 percent more expensive than to the European Union, and the amount of revenue for enterprises has already fallen by 30 percent. Tarasyuk suggested that the way out could be to subsidize the cost of transportation and the creation of special warehouses in the Far Eastern ports. A good option would be to use pellets and other logging waste in Russia. However, for this it will be necessary to re-equip private households and municipal boiler houses with boilers suitable for using such fuel, which requires significant costs.

Earlier, the world’s largest plywood producer, the Russian company Sveza, reported a 60-80 percent decrease in capacity utilization due to sanctions that closed its way to the European market.
The supply of products of enterprises to the Far East may be complicated by logistical difficulties. Due to the delay in the modernization of the Eastern test site (Baikal-Amur and Trans-Siberian Railways), carriers cannot fulfill all applications. Plenipotentiary of the President of Russia in the Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD), Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev estimated losses at 1.5 trillion rubles a year.
