US police have arrested a suspect in a shooting during an Independence Day celebration in the northern suburbs of Highland Park, Illinois. This was announced on July 4 by the TV channel CBS Chicago with reference to a source close to the investigation.
It is noted that eight hours after the incident, 22-year-old Robert “Bobby” E. Crimo III was arrested.
The young man tried to escape from the police in a car when he noticed surveillance, but after a short chase, the police were able to stop his car.
The suspect has been charged and the police are still investigating. At the same time, the TV channel added, it is not known how law enforcement officers identified Krimo as a suspect.
Earlier it was reported that Krimo was put on the wanted list as “a person of interest to the investigation.” The police warned that he might be armed and dangerous to others.
The shooting at the Independence Day parade in Highland Park happened earlier in the day. The shooter fired 20 to 30 shots 20 minutes after the start of the parade. As a result, six people died and 24 were injured. More than 100 police and FBI officers were reported to be at the scene.
US President Joe Biden has offered government support to the governor of Illinois and the mayor of Highland Park. In addition, he noted that he was following developments, and called on federal law enforcement agencies to join the search for the criminal.
