After eighty laps, Van Kalmthout crossed the finish line more than 11 seconds later than New Zealand winner Scott McLaughlin. Spaniard Alex Palou finished second and Australian Will Power third.
Veekay could use a good result after three disappointing races. He dropped out in the Indy 500 and the Detroit race and finished 17th in Road America. He remained in fourteenth place in the championship despite finishing fourth in Lexington. Swede Marcus Ericsson, who finished sixth in the Indy 200, is the leader.
