The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority imposes a distinguished control system at the Ghuwaifat border crossing and other land ports, ensuring the health and safety of all food items arriving in the country in accordance with international standards.
The system is characterized by regulatory accuracy and the speed of completion of transactions and control procedures with ease, by constantly updating the systems in place, in order to ensure the health and safety of all food coming into the country through land ports.
The authority confirmed that it applies a system based on the degree of health risk to inspect imported foodstuffs through the ports of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, where the imported food shipments are inspected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The regulations and laws in force in the field of food safety have also been updated, in line with international requirements, in a manner that reduces the time taken to complete the entry of food shipments and the completion and completion of procedures for imported food shipments at the border crossing within a few minutes.
The statistics reveal that 692,185 tons and 831 kilograms of various types of foodstuffs entered the country’s markets through the Ghuwaifat border crossing during the past year. Food items returned to the country are 2,275 tons and 485 kilograms of food.
The inspection teams of the authority at the border crossing points verify the official documents and certificates of imported food shipments and check them to ensure their authenticity, and inspect the imported food products and ensure their health safety, and that all food consignments meet the quality and safety requirements and conform to the approved standard specifications.
The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority is keen on the health and safety of all food traded in Abu Dhabi, whether through effective control of all outlets, as well as supervision of markets and periodic and sudden inspection of all food establishments to ensure the authenticity of food items traded.
During the past year, the authority implemented several different campaigns throughout the year, including a campaign with government agencies, a campaign to prepare for the month of Ramadan, a campaign for Eid al-Fitr, a campaign for Eid al-Adha, a campaign to follow up on the implementation of precautionary measures, a campaign on suppliers of educational institutions, a campaign on mobile vehicles. It took place at the level of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Inspection tours in Al Dhafra region during the past year revealed that (251) violations of food establishments in Al Dhafra were issued, and 3 food establishments were closed during the same period.
