Max Verstappen And Charles Leclerc they were the fastest consistently throughout the wet Silverstone Qualifying, but in the end Carlos Sainz took his first career pole position on a Saturday he won’t easily forget. Sainz took off for the last lap in front of Leclerc and Verstappen, who therefore on paper had the best dry track behind the former McLaren driver.
Verstappen in T1 had signed a notable partial, four tenths faster than Leclerc, but the latter spun at the exit of the very fast dance. After the Chapel, at the beginning of the Hangar straight, Leclerc was the protagonist of a spectacular 360 °, a ‘number’ that nevertheless triggered a yellow flag respected by Max Verstappen, mindful of the risk one runs when not respecting a reporting of this type (there are at least three penalty positions).
Verstappen had turned 360 degrees at the exit of the Stowe in the first lap and in T3 he was unable to regain the ground lost in T2. The Red Bull driver finished in 72 thousandths from pole position and had to settle for the front row after a Saturday almost dominated until the last attempt.
The best track was an advantage that could be nullified precisely by an error by the drivers in front. Leclerc made itopening the doors of his first career pole position to box mate Carlos Sainz.
