Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, the Fujairah International Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, organized by the Jiu-Jitsu Federation, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi International Association for Professional Jiu-Jitsu, kicked off today, Saturday, at Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah, with the participation of elite players. And players from all over the world.
The tournament witnessed the participation of 800 male and female players from 50 countries around the world, and the first day’s competitions, which were held on seven rugs, were characterized by high performance and distinguished levels, and a remarkable brilliance of a group of emerging talents, knowing that it was allocated to the youth, juniors and professors categories who showed high readiness and a strong desire to Ascending the podium, which contributed to the entertainment of the fans who gathered in the stands, and the tournament is included in the annual classification approved by the Abu Dhabi Professional Jiu-Jitsu Association, where it is awarded to the first place winner in each category with 600 classification points.
The competitions of the first day of the tournament were attended by His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Brigadier Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, President of the Taekwondo Federation, Muhammad Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice President of the Jiu-Jitsu Federation, and a number of federation officials and representatives of clubs and academies.
Within the framework of the continuous cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and the Emirates Jujitsu Federation, and on the sidelines of the tournament, the Ministry of Interior Child Protection Center organized an awareness workshop on protecting children’s rights and its impact on safeguarding the gains of society, which was attended by a number of officials and administrators in the federation.
The Fujairah International Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship is the third round of the Abu Dhabi Association Championship, which consists of 5 rounds held in different regions of the country.
The competitions of the first day of the championship resulted in the Commando Group Academy winning first place, while the AFNT Academy ranked runner-up, and Sharjah Self-Defense Sports ranked third.
In terms of countries, the UAE ranked first, ahead of Colombia, which ranked runner-up, and Brazil in third place.
His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, received two commemorative shields from the Jiu-Jitsu Federation and the Fujairah Martial Arts Club, in return for his constant support for jiu-jitsu and other martial arts tournaments, and his contribution to highlighting the country’s global leadership in this type of growing popular sport.
His Excellency said that the UAE continues to excel and consolidate its position as the home of jiu-jitsu, and perhaps the scene that was painted today in the Zayed Sports Complex and the great public interaction with competitions is the best evidence of our country’s excellence in hosting and organizing the largest sports events and championships.
His Excellency praised the role of the Jiu-Jitsu Federation and its tireless efforts in expanding the spread of jiu-jitsu and allowing the participation of the largest possible number of sports enthusiasts throughout the country. Noting that the future looks brighter.
Muhammad Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice-President of the Jiu-Jitsu Federation, on behalf of the Federation’s Board of Directors, extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, for the great support and interest that His Highness attaches to the sport of Jiu-Jitsu, which was the greatest guarantee for the success of the tournament and achieving its goals, noting that Supporting the rational leadership of the game represents the main pillar of the country’s global leadership in this sport.
He valued the distinguished hosting provided by the Zayed Sports Complex for this important event, stressing that this great sports edifice makes the tournament an important station in the major international stations that attract stars from different countries of the world.
He said: The organization of the tournament in the Emirate of Fujairah reflects the efforts of the federation to expand the spread of sports and the base of practitioners in all the emirates of the country, and that the great turnout witnessed in the current version of the tournament was expected, given the good efforts made by officials thanks to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince Fujairah.
Al Dhaheri explained that the Fujairah International Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship is an important station in the agenda of the Federation and Abu Dhabi Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championships, and this is evidenced by its continuous development and remarkable success in terms of organization and high professionalism, and the keenness of clubs and academies to leave an influential imprint by participating in it with hundreds of players. And players from all over the world.
Al Dhaheri pointed to the ideal timing for the championship and its holding in the middle of the season, in light of the increasing preparations of the academies and clubs for the upcoming championships and important events on the jiu-jitsu arena, especially the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship in November.
In turn, Brigadier General Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, President of the Taekwondo Federation, said that the atmosphere of the tournament and the size of participation in it at the level of players and countries reflect the importance of this tour, which is considered one of the most prominent jujitsu championships in the Emirate of Fujairah and the region.
Al Zeyoudi praised the tremendous efforts made by the Jiu-Jitsu Federation to reach the highest levels in the world, and to enhance the country’s leadership, which has become a role model in upgrading the sports sector in general and combat games in particular.
The Fujairah International Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship witnessed a new era of cooperation between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and the Jiu-Jitsu Federation to support athletes and enhance the presence of jiu-jitsu.
ADNOC is participating in the tournament with a special team consisting of a group of strong and promising players, and Abdullah Al-Sinani from the ADNOC team, who holds the purple belt, managed to snatch the bronze of the first masters, weighing 85 kg.
Yesterday, the players presented wonderful technical glimpses and a strong performance on the rug. In this context, Al-Anoud Ibrahim Al-Harbi, a yellow belt player of Palms Sports Academy, who won the gold in the championship in the junior category in the 48kg category, expressed her great happiness at achieving this achievement in front of a large number of fans in An exceptional atmosphere of enthusiasm.
She added that winning in these tournaments develops the desire to stay on top and constantly develop the level to achieve the goals of professionalism in this sport.
The player, Majid Al Balushi, from Al Jazira Blue Belt, the 46 kg gold holder in the youth category, said that the victory and coronation was achieved as a result of continuous training and benefiting from the fights he had previously fought, as he was keen to deal with weaknesses and develop the technical and tactical aspects in the face of opponents, and that he is happy to obtain 600 points. His rating enhances his score this year, and his chances of participating in the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
Tomorrow, “Sunday”, the championship activities will continue on its second day with competitions for the amateur categories of the blue belt holders and the professionals of the purple, brown and black belts, with the participation of a group of the most prominent international stars.
The official weight procedures for the competing players begin on the second day of the tournament between eight thirty and ten in the morning, while the fights begin at eleven in the morning.
