Hyundai is one of the few car manufacturers that still today invest in hydrogen as a green solution for the future. Manifesto of the strategy carried out over the years by the Korean brand is the Nexo, A fuel cell powered SUV that is preparing to debut in its second generation. A debut which, however, will be slow in coming compared to what was initially forecast: Hyundai had planned to start production and sales of the new Nexo in the second half of 2023, but due to a problem encountered in the development phase of the hydrogen engine it was forced to postpone this appointment to 2024.
At the moment it is not known exactly which ones problems Hyundai has found with the development of fuel cells, but according to some analysts, the automaker may re-evaluate its hydrogen-related business after this setback. The strategy announced by Hyundai regarding hydrogen to date is limited to the range of commercial vehicles: in the plans issued by the Korean company there is the desire to offer fuel cell versions of all its models by 2028. Not only that: the Hyundai itself last year had made it known that it would develop hydrogen vehicles for the KIA and Genesis brands, which could be launched on the market after 2025. But above all, pay attention to the latter, the one branded Genesis: according to the latest rumors reported by Carscoops, there is a risk that the brand has deleted the project.
It remains to be seen now what priorities Hyundai will give, considering that the electric vehicle market is continuing to grow while that of hydrogen vehicles always remains. relatively small. Only a few hours ago the Korean brand unveiled the first official images of the new one Ioniq 6second model of the Ioniq family: it is a 100% electric streamliner that corresponds to the production version of the Prophecy concept, presented by Hyundai in 2020. During the next month, all the technical and engine specifications of the new Ioniq 6 will also be known.
