Even at the university of motorcycling, on the track of Assen, pole position had only one master: Pecco Bagnaia. The Ducati rider on the flying lap is now almost invariably the fastest rider on the entire MotoGP grid. For the Piedmontese, the one won today is in fact the second consecutive start at the pole and the fourth in the last six races. A clear trend, which takes up the extraordinary final of last season and to which Bagnaia also added the icing on the cake of the track record. Now, however, remaining in the scholastic metaphor, it is time for graduation exam.
In fact, it will be up to us to realize this umpteenth masterpiece drawn in qualifying in the race, without making mistakes: the three crashes in the last five races represent an important warning. Above all, it is the crash of the Sachsenring that has remained the most in the Italian driver’s head. “Whether it will be a tough race? Yes as always. I think and hope that last race served as a lesson for me – said Bagnaia to the microphones of Sky Sport MotoGPturning his mind already to tomorrow – I would like to start taking some steps forward this time “.
Analyzing the day today, the Italian driver highlighted the work done during FP4decisive in reaching pole position: “Taking pole here is worth a lot. I like this track a lot, but it’s not exactly the best for our bike. I am very happy to have raised everything in PL4, because this morning in PL3 I had struggled enough. We had a few things to do, but from FP4 onwards we took another step in the right direction. I am very happy with the work done, now we are more ready for tomorrow. My problem was the movements on the bike and having little feeling in throwing the bike into the fast sections. We simply tried to lower it. Now it moves less and is more stable, consequently I can do everything better. In Q2, being able to push even more in the fast section made me take a step compared to this morning’s time attack“.
