OPPO participated in the Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Conference (CVPR 2022) and conquers the event by taking with it 8 awards! And this is also thanks to 7 innovative projects presented, developed in the field of AI. The ranking achieved, therefore, includes three first places, a second place and four third places; goals that will get better and better, thanks to constant technological development of the company that makes AI able to demonstrate a level of cognitive ability similar to that of humans.
“In 2012, complex neural networks designed for image recognition gave new life to the research and application of artificial intelligence. Since then, this technology has experienced a decade of rapid development. OPPO continues to promote the use of artificial intelligence in the realization of complex perceptual and cognitive processes, such as the ability to learn from a large amount of uncoded data, to create navigation flows and to reconstruct 3D information from different perspectives. I am delighted to see that seven of our projects have been selected for this year’s conference. Based on this success, we will continue to work to apply AI in increasingly innovative and avant-garde fields, to bring its benefits to an increasing number of people “ he has declared Guo Yandong, Chief Scientist in Intelligent Perception of OPPO.
OPPO and its 7 selected projects
The 7 selected projects concern the integration of multimodal information, the reconstruction of the human body in 3D, the personalization of the user experience in terms of aesthetics and the distillation of knowledge in neural networks. During the event it was explained how cross-modal technology is the key to “humanizing” artificial intelligencethus proposing a new CRIS framework based on the CLIP model. In this way, AI will better understand texts, images, auditory language, sight and other multiple forms of information.
With regard to the 3D reconstruction of the human body, OPPO’s project mainly concerns the automatic construction of digital avatars capable of faithfully reproducing human features. An important step forward carried out by OPPO Research Institute, as they have been studied in detail RGB videos of people shot with a camera, so as to act not only on human details but also on clothing and other details. In this way, the AI will be able to recognize various objects within an image.
About this, OPPO Research Institute collaborated with Leyden Li, professor of Xidian Universityto develop Personalized Imagine Aesthetics Assessment (PIAA): the first model to optimize the aesthetic evaluation of artificial intelligence, combining the subjective preferences of users with general aesthetic values. Not only that, because another project concerns the semantic reconstruction of the 3D multi-view plandeveloped in collaboration with Tsinghua University, INS-Conv (INcremental Sparse Convolution).
A step forward for OPPO, a great future for humanity
The semantic reconstruction of the multi-view 3D plan will allow accurately analyze the surfaces of a 3D environment, recognizing the due characteristics. As you could read at the beginning of this article, however, OPPO stood out not only in projects but also for some challenges brought forward by the CVPR event. In fact, the company managed to take it home 8 awards. Here are the challenges won during the conference:
- Neural Architecture Search (NAS) Challenge;
- SoccerNet Challenge;
- ActivityNet Temporal Localization Challenge;
- Video Object Segmentation Challenge;
- ACDC Challenge 2022;
- WAD Argoverse2 Motion Forecasting Challange.
OPPO cares a lot about research and development, so much so that he personally invested in it and founded not only an ad hoc team in 2015, but also the Institute of Intelligent Perception. Thanks to the institution in question, the company now boasts 2,650 global patent applications! Not only research, but also important collaborations including “Inspiration Ahed” and the 2021 launch of NPU dedicated to imaging, MariSilicon X and various platforms including AR CybeReal, OPPO Air Glass and Omoji.
