The energy flat rate from the 2022 relief package is coming. But who benefits from the payout? And when will the 300 euros be paid?
Berlin – In view of the sharp rise in prices in everyday life, the federal government has launched some financial aid for citizens with the 2022 relief package. Since in particular the energy prices since Ukraine war constantly skyrocketing, this includes the so-called Energy flat rate of 300 euros. But not everyone benefits from the one-off payment. Reports on who gets the energy flat rate and when the money will be paid out in 2022 kreiszeitung.de.
When will the energy flat rate of 300 euros be paid out?
With the energy flat rate from the relief package, the politics all employees in Germany sponsor. That amounts to about 44 million people in the Federal Republic. The 300 euros are paid out as a one-time subsidy, which is paid out by the employer in September together with the salary. The companies can then get the amount back from the state.
Employees who are in an employment relationship on September 1, 2022 will probably receive the lump sum with the wage payment in September. In the case of smaller employers who submit their wage tax registration quarterly or annually, the energy lump sum could also only be transferred in October, reports Business Insider. According to a press release from the SPD, the payment should be made “quickly and without bureaucratic hurdles”.
Who gets the energy flat rate 2022? Even with a mini job you benefit from a €300 payout
But who actually gets the energy flat rate? Employed persons who are subject to income tax and are classified in tax classes 1 to 5, flat-rate taxed mini-jobbers, tradespeople and the self-employed benefit from the 300 euros. For the self-employed, the income tax prepayment is to be reduced once by the amount – so they do not get the 300 euros paid out separately.
While mini-jobbers should initially get nothing when the energy flat rate 2022 was first announced, it is now clear that marginally employed people should also benefit from the energy flat rate. Both mini-jobbers and so-called “short-term employees” will receive the 300 euros.

Since the energy allowance of 300 euros is paid by the employer in most cases with the salary, you do not have to apply for it – the payment should be made automatically in September. However, people who are not gainfully employed are left out – and with them the majority of pensioners. For this reason, one Pensioner already defended with a lawsuit against this “giant mess” of missing energy flat rate.
Lower Saxony Prime Minister Stephan Because already called for the energy flat rate for pensioners – as well as a higher basic security.
Energy flat rate 2022: When the 300 euros are paid out, pensioners get nothing
Most people in retirement are not employed or liable for tax – which is why they simply fall through the cracks when it comes to the energy flat rate. However, there is a simple one Trick how pensioners can get to the 300 euros. They only have to work one day in 2022 as a mini-jobber and state this as “self-employed work” in the tax return – this way they also receive the bonus as people who are actually not employed.
However, whether this method actually works is controversial. The website Steuertipps.de strongly advises against the trick, since extremely brief contracts – such as babysitting the grandchild for an hour for 12 euros and stating this in the tax return – are scrutinized and checked very closely by the tax office. In the course of this, it is advisable to take on an actual mini-job for two to three months in order to be able to get the 300 euro energy flat rate as a pensioner with certainty.
