After two years of hiatus due to the pandemic, the Suzuka 8 Hours is back, one of the most famous and prestigious races in the endurance world. For the occasion, several World Superbike riders take part in the event and this year the name of Iker Lecuona appears in the entry list. The Spaniard, making his debut in the world championship in production derivatives in 2022, will fly to the Land of the Rising Sun to race the Suzuka 8 Hours with Honda.
It will be the first endurance race for Lecuona, and on 7 August he will test alongside his two teammates. Honda has in fact formalized the line-up for the home race and will also bring Takumi Takahashi and Tetsuta Nagashima to the track. The trio will try to aim as high as possible with the Spaniard and two experienced drivers. Takahashi is in fact the test driver of the winged company and has won three editions, while Nagashima, who had also raced in Moto2, is currently engaged in the BSB.
The Suzuka 8 Hours will be an important testing ground for Iker Lecuona, who is already doing well in the Superbike World Championship. In fact, at his debut he already distinguished himself with excellent performances, also going to conquer the podium in Race 2 at Assen. He is currently fifth in the overall standings with 99 points, 121 lengths from the top.
“I am thrilled to be racing the Suzuka 8 Hours with the HRC team,” comments Lecuona. “This will be my first time in an endurance race, I know the Suzuka race is very tough from a physical point of view for a driver, with the high temperatures, extreme humidity and all the overtaking. But I really like the track and I can’t wait to get started. Together with my teammates and my technical staff I will give my best to get on top of the podium “.
