From what has been shared the lost chapter of “Sesame Street” was meant to help children face their fears, but, being somber, the show’s producers received phone calls from parents complaining about the ‘scary character’ appearing.
Public refusal caused Hamilton’s appearance on the show to never be broadcast on TV again after its premiere in 1976. It went directly to the home format.
The episode in question was part of a 2019 event called “Sesame Street: lost and found”, a special presentation by the Museum of the Moving Image in New York, where the show’s writers presented chapters that were aired only once.
