During a speech at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, Putin stressed that “Western sanctions aimed at hitting the Russian economy,” stressing “the strength of the financial conditions of the Russian state.”
He said, “Three months after the imposition of sanctions on Russia, we got rid of the inflation wave after a peak of 17 percent, and today it is 16.7 percent, and we are witnessing more stability. The financial system is stable.”
The Russian president went on to emphasize his country’s resilience, saying, “We can meet any challenge.”
He also pointed out that “the world is witnessing major economic changes,” adding that “the West considers many countries in the world among its colonies.”
And he added, “Western powers are deliberately trying to undermine the world order and international institutions… and the era of unipolarity in the world has come to an end.”
Putin said that Russia will send food supplies to Africa and the Middle East, noting in this regard that his country welcomes talks with the United Nations on food supplies.
The Russian president also said that Moscow’s decision to start a special military operation in Ukraine was difficult, stressing, “But we had to.”
He also reiterated that “all the goals of the special military operation in Ukraine will be achieved.”
