Nikita Mazepin returns to be talked about. For someone like him, a former Formula 1 driver with a smoky character and the son of an oligarch very close to Vladimir Putin, making news doesn’t have to be particularly difficult. However, Russia and politics have nothing to do with it, for once. Mazepin has in fact criticized former teammate Mick Schumacher, still at zero points after a difficult start to the season with a car that has nevertheless shown that it can be in the top ten, as evidenced by the 15 points scored so far by Kevin Magnussen.
“Schumacher’s difficulties? The results of him speak for themselves, I’d say. I have nothing more to say about him. As for me, I will get behind the wheel at the earliest opportunity. He is unlikely to participate in another Formula 1 race, at least in the near future, but miracles do happen, look at Magnussen. I think if Kevin had been told that he would be back in F1 in 2022 he would not have believed it in the slightest, and instead it happened. Four months ago I could not have imagined that everything would change so much. And now I can’t think that in another four months everything will be fine, but I hope so“Mazepin told the Russian broadcaster MatchTV. “Magnussen is in shape, he has shown he can do it and I want to repeat the deeds“. Certainly not in Haas, where he says the team has turned its back on him: “Nobody contacted me after the removal, and I honestly don’t know why. If a mechanic was fired, I’d text him, regardless of what I think about him“.
For the record, even Mazepin in the only season in Formula 1 – a possibility gained among other things only thanks to the sponsors – has collected zero points in Formula 1. Being soundly beaten by Schumacher and earning the unrewarding nickname of Mazespin for his particular familiarity with spinning on race weekends.
