After weeks of intense rumours, the news was confirmed this Saturday morning: Shakira and Gerard Piqué are in a separation process.
“We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the well-being of our children, who are our top priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding,” says a short statement signed by “Shakira and Gerard” released by the singer’s communication agency.
Shakira, 45, and Piqué, 35, began a romantic relationship in 2011 and have two children, Milan and Sasha, born in 2013 and 2015. With tens of millions of records sold, the Colombian star is an interpreter of hits like ‘ Waka Waka’, ‘Loba’ or ‘Hips don’t lie’.
(Also: Egan Bernal ‘does not handle his Twitter account’: Carolina Ramírez’s ‘challenge’).
On his side, Piqué is one of the most successful defenders in the history of Spanish football, both with his club Barcelona and with the national team, with which he won the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship.
The relationship with Shakira took Piqué to another dimension. From a recognized player he became a media star and also became a successful businessman. In 2015, Piqué and Shakira organized a dinner where the leaders of Barcelona met those of the Japanese online trading giant Rakuten, which allowed the club to achieve one of its juiciest advertising contracts.
Precisely, in the middle of that mediatic ‘boom’ that Piqué’s life has represented, the footballer starred in a more than singular anecdote a few years ago in Madrid. Everything, because of his controversial attitude.

‘The Party of Discord’
According to the player himself in a broadcast on Twitch, with the ‘streamer’ Ibai Llanos, his most scandalous party occurred at the time when he began to be summoned to the Spanish National Team (time in which his relationship with Shakira began).
(We recommend: Gerard Piqué: the song that Shakira would have dedicated to him for their separation).
“Many years ago with the national team, I think with Vicente Del Bosque (coach) or I don’t know if before. They gave us a day, in Las Rozas (in the Madrid community), you were focused and they gave you a day off to do what what would you like”said the footballer.
“And we were young and we said ‘let’s go partying’. We went to a club and we were in a VIP area. I say to the waiter ‘listen to me, How can I do to put the Barça anthem on the premises?‘” Pique added.
“And then the guy tells me ‘ask for the most expensive bottle we have.’ A bottle of champagne. We were all from the national team and I didn’t say anything. I told the waiter ‘come on, this one’. He brings it to me and plays a Godfather anthem for me and I say ‘give it back, I don’t want it’”
‘”When he saw that he was serious, he put on the Barça anthem. Some whistles began… It hasn’t even been heard at the Bernabéu. Never in my life… fingers up… We had to be escorted out of the premises. What’s more, the two following songs played ‘Hala Madrid’, they were forced by social pressure. We had to go escorted”, concluded the defender about this striking ‘party of discord’.
So far, Piqué has not issued any individual statement on his social networks about the situation with Shakira.
