The classic Street Fighter, redesigned for a modern era
The February preview trailer revealed the hyper-realistic look of Street Fighter 6. We are proud to announce that this new installment of the series is in development with Capcom’s RE Engine, already used for Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village and Devil May. Cry 5. Thanks to the RE Engine, the graphics of the game will improve in every respect. The drops of sweat run down the skin, the muscles tense, the cherry petals float in the air and react to the movements of the players. Thanks to this graphic update combined with explosive paint splashes and an amazing graffiti-based style, Street Fighter 6 will be able to count on a truly unique artistic direction.
Discover the first characters
And what would Street Fighter be without its iconic squad of fighters? Ryu, Chun-Li and Luke will make their return to Street Fighter 6 and will be able to count on a renewed aesthetic in line with this new era. They will be joined by new entry Jamie, who will enrich the game with his unique style and unpredictable moveset based on the style known as drunk boxing, which incorporates breakdance and even a drink capable of unleashing his own devastating ki. .
Luke, on the other hand, is a fighter who uses his background in a private militia to teach mixed martial arts. He spends his days eating junk food, playing video games, and challenging opponents to a good old-fashioned fist fight. Nonetheless, he never forgets his true goal of him: victory.
Here are some of the special moves you can use:
- DDT – A powerful throwing grapple, activated after the first hit of an Overdrive (OD) Flash Knuckle move. Useful if you need to deal guaranteed extra damage.
- Fatal Shot – Emits an additional shockwave after an OD Sand Blast, for even more damage after swapping blows.
Jamie is part of the Chinatown Peace Corps and aspires to follow in the footsteps of Yun and Yang, the twin Dragons. With his fighting experience, Jamie always puts justice and friends first, defending his city with martial arts.
Here are some of the special moves you can use:
- The Devil Inside – Jamie takes a sip of his “trigger KI” drink to increase his intoxication level. By reaching higher levels, you can access additional moves.
- Luminous Dive Kick (intoxication level 1+) – Jumping forward, Jamie extends his leg and quickly slings himself to the ground. Useful as a surprise attack or to shorten distances.
Ryu continues his training without ever stopping, trying to get to true strength. Calm and sincere, he travels the world in search of worthy opponents. Having mastered the Satsui no Hado, he pursues even more ambitious results.
Here are some of the special moves you can use:
- Hashogeki – Ryu concentrates ki in the palms of his hands to release it a short distance in front of him. Useful after a block or combo.
- Denjin Charge – Wraps fists with the Power of Nothingness, empowering moves like Hadoken or Hashogeki. Since it makes you vulnerable, timing is key.
Chun-Li is a former Interpol agent. She is currently on the hunt for Li Fen, a victim of the Street Fighter V black moon incident. With Shadaloo now out of action, Chun-Li began teaching kung fu and became a valued member of the community.
Here are some of the special moves you can use:
- Tensho Kicks – Chun-Li soars into the air with a lethal series of kicks. Useful to counter an opponent’s jump attack or to complete a combo.
- Serenity Stream – Chun-Li switches to a low, stationary guard. When Chun-Li is in this fighting stance, his normal attacks change.
A fighting system designed to stimulate creativity
With each new chapter of Street Fighter, new mechanics are introduced to learn and master in order to become the best. Here, then, is the new Drive, an indicator to be managed carefully, able to unleash all the creativity of the players. You can use the Drive Gauge to perform five different techniques that can easily enhance offense and defense.
Drive Impact is a powerful blow that can absorb incoming enemy attacks, with the potential to end in a “wall splat”. Use the Drive Parry to repel enemy attacks and fill the Drive Gauge. Cancel the execution of a Drive Parry or normal attack with a Drive Rush to quickly get close to the opponent. The Overdrive Arts are similar to the EX Moves from previous chapters and are capable of powering up your special moves. Use Drive Reversal to execute a counterattack that can get you out of the riskiest situations. One indicator, five techniques, unlimited possibilities. Use your inventiveness to decide which techniques to use and when. It all depends on you!

A modern scheme that can be used by anyone
For those who fear that the controls may be overly complicated and want to get right into the action, just select the new control mode. First, we have the classic layout designed for Street Fighter veterans, which involves the use of six keys. Then we have the modern scheme, which facilitates the control of the characters and allows you to perform special moves by pressing the appropriate key in combination with a directional input. It’s perfect for novice players, or those who have struggled with the classic control scheme in previous games. Thanks to the modern layout, you will be able to show off some of your character’s most powerful and spectacular techniques with the press of a few buttons. The modern scheme is optional, but we highly recommend trying it out for all players!
Discover the live commentary
Finally, we are pleased to announce a novelty that will add all the adrenaline of a competitive match to a normal match. Discover the live commentary. We are partnering with the most well known FGC (Fight Game Community) commentators and other well known characters to insert their voices directly into the game! Start a match and, over the course of the fight, their voices will comment on the fight as in a real tournament. In addition to contributing to the atmosphere of the game, this feature will act as a sort of easy-to-understand gameplay guide. In this way, new Street Fighter players will be able to better understand the mechanics to be exploited in the next battles! Live commentary will support subtitles in 13 languages to ensure maximum accessibility. The first legendary commentators to appear in this mode are Vicious and Aru! Next, we will announce the rest of the lineup.
A new world to discover
Let’s briefly talk about two of the new modes that made their appearance in the latest trailer: World Tour and Battle Hub. World Tour is an immersive single-player story mode that goes beyond classic fighting paradigms by letting you make your mark in Street Fighter 6 with your own custom avatar. And then there is the Battle Hub, shown briefly at the end of the trailer: while it may seem like a simple waiting room for online matches, it will undoubtedly offer new and exclusive possibilities for involvement and communication. Both of these modes need further study in the future and we can’t wait to discuss them in more detail.
This is exactly what we mean by “It’s your time. Your battle. ” With even more complete new modes, customizable options to enhance the gaming experience, or the possibilities offered by the Drive, Street Fighter 6 is the future of fighting games. Available in 2023 on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4! (Hey, did you notice what appears on the Battle Hub screen at the end?)
