The lawyer, Muhammad Sameh, said that he often took cases in which the husband was subjected to violence from his wife, but he found it very difficult to prove the matter, especially since what is known or what many are convinced of is that the man is the one who assaults the woman and not the other way around.
He added in his speech to “Sky News Arabia” that things change with time, of course, but many people continue to deal with the issue of wife beating of her husband as if it were a fantasy.
The case of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard for the first time made women stand up for the man and sympathize with him against a woman of their own sex, according to Wafa Hassan, who told Sky News Arabia that she found many of her friends following the case almost daily and following the sessions, and their halls were different from before. And the matter has become to see the truth away from the gender of the accused or the victim.
While Islam Gad said, many men, including his friends, are subjected to violence from their wives in various forms, including physical violence, but some of them are afraid to make a case for two reasons, the first for fear of silver, according to their belief, and the second is their feeling that no one will believe them.
In his interview with Sky News Arabia, Gad indicated that he believes that the change in the public mood caused by the Depp and Heard case, especially among feminist movements, will encourage many men who are exposed to violence to announce this without fear of anything.
The latest study on violence against men in Egypt was from the United Nations Crime Research Center, which confirmed that Egypt ranks first in the world in the list of the world’s most violent women with a rate of 28%, considering it a new phenomenon in Egyptian society. The United States with 23%, Britain with 17%, and India with 11%.
Statistics published by Al-Ahram newspaper, attributed to the Center for Social and Criminal Research in Egypt, included that 30% of women beat their husbands based on police reports and hospital reception records, in addition to opinion polls of societal segments.
This statistic included that educated women use violence more than the less educated, and this phenomenon is higher in the rich and middle segments than the poor and in urban governorates, especially Cairo and Alexandria. Most cases of beatings are a response to violence by the husband, or a reduction in situations and memories in which the woman was subjected to violence or oppression.
Luxor Center for Studies, Dialogue and Development issued a study stating that more than half of married men in Egypt are subject to beatings by their wives, and the percentage of wives’ violence against their husbands reached 6.50 percent of the total number of married couples, and that violence increases among illiterate wives by 87 percent compared to educated women And that 5.63 percent of them use sharp instruments, and it is strange that a third of women do not feel remorse for their behavior towards their husbands, according to the statistic.
The study supervisors said that they relied in their studies on the results of several researches conducted by the Sociology Department at the Faculty of Arts at South Valley University.
A statistic issued from the data of family courts in Egypt in 2016 also indicated that more than half of married men are subjected to beatings by their wives, but the most important thing in this statistic is that it monitors the tools that wives use to assault their husbands.
The tools included “the belt, kitchen utensils, shoes and the hand, and sometimes they resort to biting or pinching, burning with fire, and even putting them in a hypnotic tea to immobilize them during the attack.”
Hoda Zakaria, a professor of sociology at Zagazig University, blew up a surprise in her interview with “Sky News Arabia” when she confirmed that all men, i.e. 100% of them, are subjected to violence from their wives.
She explained that women generally practice the so-called hidden or hidden violence that they were raised on since childhood, as they were brought up to hear the words of men, whether their brother, father or husband, and therefore they all the time feel oppressed, and compensate for this by practicing what is called evasion or maliciousness.
She pointed out that the wife plots against her husband and “sadly” and oppresses him psychologically, and this is one of the most severe types of violence and is practiced by almost all sixes against all husbands. Like the aggressor, she said.
She stressed that “for every case, there is an exception, of course. There are men whose nature is calm, submissive and not loud, and they are beaten by their wives, and there are also wives who abuse as a response to defend themselves.”
For his part, the cassation lawyer, Muhammad Islah, said that with regard to the issue of violence, the law does not differentiate between the sexes, as the reports of violence and assault are dealt with in the same way through proof of assault and retribution for the victim.
In his interview with “Sky News Arabia”, he explained that the matter differs only with regard to the Personal Status Law, where it benefits the woman in proving her material rights or requesting a divorce for the sake of harm. It also benefits the man if he proves his wife’s assault on him, so he divorces her for the harm and forfeits her rights.
