Law enacted in the Legislature increases minimum by 10.18% compared to 2021 value
Congress enacted a law that sets the minimum wage in 2022 at R$1,212. The document -signed by the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) – was published in this Thursday (June 2, 2022) edition of Official Diary of the Union. Here’s the intact (52 KB).
The increase is 10.18% in relation to the previous amount, R$ 1,100. The daily amount of the minimum wage corresponds to R$ 40.40, and the hourly value to R$ 5.51.
The new minimum changes the value used in the calculation of social security, social and labor benefits, which must be updated based on the new floor. The BRL 1,212 consider the monetary correction by the INPC (National Consumer Price Index) from January to November 2021 and the inflation projection for December of the same year, estimated by the technical area of the Ministry of Economy.
States may stipulate local minimum wages and salary floors by category higher than the amount set by the federal government, as long as they are not lower than the national floor.
For 2023, the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) proposed a minimum wage of BRL 1,294. This correction considers a projection for inflation up to December of 6.7%. That is, there is no forecast of a real increase in purchasing power.
