Roland GarrosIn a high-level spectacle that lasts more than four hours, Rafael Nadal has dealt with Novak Djokovic: 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 and 7-6 (4). With the win, the Spaniard qualifies for the semifinals of Roland Garros, in which Alexander Zverev is his opponent.
Nadal started his 59th meeting with Djokovic convincingly. The Spaniard immediately broke his opponent in his first service game. Djokovic gave his all, but at times there was simply nothing to say against his opponent’s play. He eventually took the set 6-2.
In the second set it seemed to go the same way as Nadal even took a 3-0 lead. After that, however, it was Djokovic’s turn to even take four games in a row. With a 5-4 lead, he broke the Spaniard again and so it became 1-1 in sets.
Set three was again for Nadal thanks to two breaks, but the Serb certainly did not give in yet. At the start of the third act he broke his opponent and at 5-3 he was allowed to serve for the set. However, Nadal broke back and eventually struck mercilessly in the tiebreak.
The almost 36-year-old Nadal, who has already won the French grand slam tournament thirteen times, lost in the semifinals to Djokovic last year. The Serbian number 1 in the world then won the clay tournament in Paris for the second time.
Djokovic has won a total of 20 grand slam titles, Nadal won his 21st at the Australian Open at the beginning of this year.
