Russian opposition leader Alexéi Navalni faces a new accusation for the alleged creation of an extremist group, a case that could cost him 15 years additional prison sentences, as he commented this Tuesday on his Instagram account.

“Not even eight days have passed since the (previous) sentence came into force, for which they gave me nine years in prison in a maximum security prison, and today the investigator arrived again and officially presented me with the charges of a new case“He wrote on the social network.
Navalni ironized that Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose entourage he constantly harasses with accusations of corruption, does not hate him, but “secretly adores” him.
According to the opponent, the Russian authorities accuse him of creating an extremist group “to stir up hatred against officials and oligarchs.” “And when they jailed me, I dared to express my disagreement (really, how does it happen) and I called rallies. That’s why I get another 15 years,” he said.
With his usual sarcasm, Navalni pointed out that it would be “another 15 years of stay in a safe and stable bunker”, where he would be safe “from the surprises and adversities of that ‘freedom’ of yours”, where everything is so disorganized that “Common people walk the streets, instead of prison guards.”
When the concrete melts where you are, I will be watching from my cell a particularly beautiful sunset. Thanks to Putin
And so, he added, “when Putin finally unleashes nuclear war,” he will be safe, because “no one would think of bombing a prison in the middle of a swamp.”
A Russian court last week considered legal the sentence of nine years in prison dictated last March for Navalni for large amount fraud and contempt, and therefore rejected the politician’s appeal.
The nine years in prison to which he was sentenced on March 22 -along with a fine of nearly $12,000 for contempt of court-, are the total sentence that Navalni must serve, in prison since February 2021 after his return to Russia from Germany, where he had recovered from poisoning with the toxic substance Novichok.
Previously, he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for an old criminal case.
