Lucien Favre refused to return to the position of coach of the German football team, Borussia Moenchengladbach, although he was the preferred candidate for the management, so that the club continued to search for a new coach for the team.
Moenchengladbach director of football Roland Verkus said during the club’s annual meeting that Favre had told management that he did not want to work in Germany again.
Favre, 64, had coached Monchengladbach between 2011 and 2015 and also coached the teams Hertha Berlin and Borussia Dortmund, and he left Dortmund in December 2020.
Favre topped the list of candidates to coach Moenchengladbach during the coming period, after the club dispensed with the services of Adi Hutter at the end of the season two weeks ago.
Ferkus said that Monchengladbach had held talks with several candidates over the past two weeks, and was seeking to resolve the issue of the coach as quickly as possible, but at the same time sought to take the “appropriate decision”.
Mönchengladbach recorded losses of 14.6 million euros ($15.7 million) in the 2021 fiscal year, which is less than its losses in 2020, the first year of the Corona pandemic crisis, when it recorded losses of 16.7 million euros.
The club’s net assets have fallen from more than 100 million euros to 72 million euros over the two years.
However, Stephen Schippers, managing director of finance, spoke of “respectful results”, given the size of the club and the resources of other clubs.
