The Roman Amphitheater will open to the public every Saturday until the end of the year, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., while the rehabilitation works are carried out. «It is a key part of our archaeological heritage and its recovery is essential for the municipality. The process of recovery and enhancement of this site is complex, due to the characteristics of the Amphitheater and its location under the bullring, so the works will take a long time. With this ‘open for works’ we want Cartagena and visitors to visit it and contemplate its evolution, always guaranteeing their safety and that of the archaeological site, “explained the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Archaeological Heritage, Ana Belén Castejón.
The ‘Amphitheaters’ exhibition, which will be installed in the adjoining Autopsy Pavilion, will be the prelude to the itinerary through the half-excavated Roman monument and the fully recovered bullring The guided tour will begin with a video and some explanatory panels, before enter the enclosure. There will be two shows a day, one at 11 a.m. and another at 12:30 p.m. To enter you must make a prior reservation by registering on the municipal website. The groups will be of a maximum of 25 people. The visit calendar already has the full poster until July 30. Access will be from Subida Doctor Fleming street.
The visit will allow to see how the excavations of the third phase are progressing, in the southwest sector of the main axis, according to the concept ‘Open for works’.
