The project, which began about a year ago, was presented on a new dedicated page on the Embracer Group official website, which you can reach at this addresswhere some interesting details are reported, such as the fact that it was entrusted to a team of experts captained by CEO David Boström.
From the portal we learn that the Embracer Games Archive is located in Karlstad in Sweden and aims to “have a copy of every physical game ever released“, starting first with the European versions in English and then extending the project to titles published in North America and Japan. More than 50,000 games, consoles and accessories are currently stored.
The official FAQ also talks about how the Embracer Games Archive in the future will also allow collaborations with initiatives, museums and institutions to help researchers and journalists and eventually will also open its doors to the public, as a sort of videogame museum. The archive was entrusted to a large team, made up of the aforementioned CEO David Boström, archivists, assistants, technical engineers and supply managers.
“Imagine a place where all physical video games, consoles and accessories are gathered in the same place“reads the message from Embracer Games Archive CEO David Boström.”And think about how much that could mean for gaming culture and enabling video game research. This journey has just begun and we are at an early stage.”
“In the Embracer Games Archive, we believe that games represent a heritage worth celebrating and safeguarding for the future. Our goal is clear: we want to archive and save as much of the video game industry as possible“.
