I will start by saying that despite the controversies that have arisen around the simulation and the marketing that surrounds the philanthropic television montage that has been taking place for years in Mexico, there is no one who can deny (or deny) the benefit that it will bring to Sinaloa. the construction of a new Telethon Children’s Rehabilitation Center (CRIT). There are many minors in this region whose parents make superhuman efforts to see them improve, so they have to constantly go to the closest CRITs in Jalisco or Sonora. With this new center, the care provided by institutions as noble and efficient as the DIF and the Autism Center will be enhanced, which may have a greater margin of maneuver to follow up on those little ones who require some type of special attention.
The other news that also reaches us from the Federal Government is the imminent inoculation against Covid to children 2 years of age and older, since this segment of the population is the only one left pending to be immunized.
With these decisions, our entity received two great pieces of news yesterday that will contribute to improving the health of our children and young people, since it is finally the age group that hurts us the most to see them suffer. However, there is an issue that is still a pending task and that unfortunately has already become a kind of pandemic, which is increasingly affecting this part of the population, and that now with the sedentary lifestyle that confinement brought with it, We continue to maintain the not so honorable number one position worldwide in terms of childhood obesity and overweight.
Given this phenomenon and reviewing the State Development Plan (PED) 2022-2027 recently presented by our State Governor, Dr. Rubén Rocha Moya, we find that although it is a realistic document that presents clear, well-focused, humanistic and above all achievable, alternative elements of a legal nature are also required to help comply with what is projected. In this sense, the problem of obesity and overweight in minors urgently requires regulations that establish a directed and comprehensive public policy, in order to be able to address this, which already represents a serious public health problem.
In Axis 1 of the PED, particularly in the area of health, we find as a priority objective 3.1, “to reduce the prevalence of cardiometabolic diseases (diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, obesity and ischemic heart disease) in the population of 20 years and more”, through care actions (detection and treatment), as well as promotion (nutritional education and guidance). The detail with strategy and its lines of action is that it focuses on people who at that age (20 years) already arrive with very advanced stages of comorbidities associated with obesity and overweight, so it would be prudent to broaden its range of action ( from the same PED), towards that child and youth segment that from such an early age, has already been suffering from this problem and its consequences such as hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Let us remember that since October 2020, the new food labeling began to operate in our country, to explain in them the excess of sugars, calories, sodium, saturated and trans fats. More than a year and a half after this regulation, the truth is that little or nothing has contributed to lowering the percentage of overweight among Mexicans, mainly among our minors, where the SSA itself warns of a prevalence of obesity and overweight in one of in four children and one in three adolescents.
Given this scenario, it would be prudent to dust off an initiative presented by former deputy Karla Montero, which was frozen since the last Legislature. It is proposed to issue a law in order to address and prevent this problem. In said freezer there are also other initiatives that seek to contribute to it, but that are somewhat limited in that they are limited, as Oaxaca and Tabasco did, to reforming the State Law on the Rights of Children and Adolescents , but they lack a comprehensive action framework that establishes coordination between the different agencies involved, in such a way that a true state crusade can be implemented to combat this, our other pandemic, that of overweight and obesity.
PRAYER FOR THE FRIEND.- Apart from the inescapable demand that justice be done and the whereabouts of who took his life be found, I want to take advantage of the space to ask for the eternal rest of Luis Enrique Ramírez, friend, man writer and excellent columnist for this publishing house.
EVERYONE TO COMMEMORATE.- Of all the festivities that the calendar contains, and apart from those that allude to a divinity, today’s is by far, I think, the one that we should celebrate the most, because no one with such a well-deserved tribute than that being with who unites us the strongest bond as human beings. Those of us who do not have it physically, to always remember it and those who do have that fortune, to hug it very tightly.
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!
