“Certainly if Iran does not abide by what it promised, the removal of the Revolutionary Guards from the list of terrorist organizations, or any kind of removal can be re-imposed,” Blinken told Congress.
The minister added, “As you know, Iran’s history regarding the issue of designating the Revolutionary Guards. The Bush administration did not do this. It was advised not to do so because it would not bring any gains and would cause problems for our citizens and forces in the region. The Obama administration also reached the same conclusion.”
Blinken added, “(Former President Donald) Trump decided to designate it (a terrorist organization) contrary to the opinion of his senior advisers and the relevant military and intelligence agencies.”
Speaking to the House of Representatives, the US Secretary of State added that the nuclear agreement is “the best way to confront the Iranian nuclear challenge.”
And Blinken added, “Reaching an agreement with Tehran in this regard will not affect the ability of the United States to counter Iran’s other malign activities,” according to Reuters.
Earlier this April, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Iran would “return to Vienna only to complete the nuclear agreement with the great powers.”
He said, “We will not return to Vienna for new negotiations, but to finalize an agreement on the nuclear. We must then wait for Washington’s response” to the outstanding issues..
“At the moment, we have not got a final response from Washington. If Washington answers the outstanding issues, then we can go to Vienna as soon as possible,” he added.
