Sony has announced that it has given the green light to a number of new films, including Ghostbusters 5. The franchise will therefore live on, during CinemaCon, which is run by the National Association of Theater Ownsers, is an event that takes place holds in Las Vegas and is a time where new movies are also announced.
Similar to what happened with the third Venom movie, Ghostbusters 5 also doesn’t have a release date. But it is in the production phase. Sony also hasn’t confirmed if the cast will be the same or if there will be any changes, and the same goes for whoever will be behind the cameras. In fact, we don’t know if Jason Reitman will keep the role of him, especially since he is currently involved in another project with HBO, Diablo Cody.
While there aren’t a lot of details regarding the new film, it’s very easy to speculate on what awaits you in theaters. Indeed, it is highly probable that this will be a direct sequel to Afterlifewhich ended with a scene which leaves open some questions about the future.
The franchise was born in 1984 with the release of the first film, directed by Ivan Reitman and which he saw as the protagonist Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, who start a company that helps New Yorkers get rid of ghosts. The film immediately had a huge success and even surpassed the threshold of films, also reaching the videogame world with some dedicated games. The sequel arrived in 1989, only to see a new movie in 2016, when we saw the classic Ghostbusters. replaced by Melissa McCarthy, Lesli Jones, Kate McKinnon and Kristen Wiig. So now all we have to do is wait for official communications on the new film.
