Al Ain (Union)
Three female computer science students from the United Arab Emirates University have successfully participated in the Lulu Money training, the first application for an exchange company in the UAE. The 6-month training period aims to create and design potential frameworks for one of the most popular cross-border payment applications in the region.
Students Arwa Al-Yarwan, Shamma Al-Saeedi and Sarah Al-Shamsi, under the supervision of Dr. Jose Berengueres, Professor of Design Thinking, Analysis and Visualization, helped turn this training into a two-way path for knowledge exchange. The team also blended their innate knowledge with the complex world of financial services based on global hackathons, coding events and innovation festivals.
The project was named “Bel Tora” based on the Arabic term “Fateora”. The first phase saw the students being encouraged to design a framework for this new customized unit, which aims to facilitate bill payments through the application. As the students succeeded in all assignments despite having no previous financial or practical background in the field of transfer transactions, the team was highly commended for their excellence throughout the training period.
Commenting on this engagement, Joseph Klits, Head of Business Transformation at Lulu Financial Group, said: “Financial companies rely mainly on aspects of user experience and insight. The skill of the students, the distinction of their backgrounds and their extensive knowledge in the field of design was an influential factor that contributed to their excellence in work performance, and also contributed to transforming our team’s education in a more visible way at the same time.”
The successful conclusion of the first phase led the Lulu Money team to plan to extend the Bell Tura project, which will be a comprehensive subscription model in which the three female students will act as lead designers.
Distance working
The addition of female students to Lulu Money’s diverse team globally contributes to expanding the capabilities of remote work, as there are a team of technicians from different countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, India and Indonesia, who work closely to communicate digitally, create ideas and build solutions in the real world.
