Movistar premieres ‘We are sorry for the inconvenience’ on Friday, a series about the aging of an orchestra conductor and a rock glory
Two film veterans, Miguel Rellán and Antonio Resines, have joined their talents to bring to life a comedy with dramatic overtones, ‘We feel the discomfort’, which Movistar Plus+ premieres on Friday. The six-part play, directed by Juan Cavestany and Álvaro Fernández-Armero, recounts the adventures of two old friends who follow distant paths: Rafael Jiménez (Miguel Rellán) is an old glory of rock and Rafael Müller (Antonio Resines), a renowned conductor.
Without being specifically aimed at a larger audience, ‘We feel the inconvenience’ talks about age, romantic relationships, illness and friendship. As the footage progresses, the series takes on a darker texture.
After directing ‘Vergüenza’, Cavestany and Fernández-Armero wanted to change register and light up a friendly comedy about getting older in a world where events happen at such speed that they threaten to leave the two musicians in the gutter. “We wanted to meet the best part of those who have made Spanish comedy a reality,” argues Fernández-Armero.
The two authors of the series have had a history of Spanish cinema, Fiorella Faltoyano, to embody a wife tired of the egomania and fatuity of a classical music orchestra director whom she decides to leave, fed up with his deification. Faltoyano who lives somewhat away from the spotlight, not of her own volition but because in her seventies it is difficult for directors to notice women her age. For this reason, she has taken refuge in writing and has just published a book of stories that she defines as disturbing.
At 78 years old, Rellán does not want to hear or talk about retirement. He looks in the mirror of Clint Eastwood, a long-lived genius of 91 years. Rellán and Resines, who curiously have suffered from severe covid -the second has not fully recovered from muscle atrophy-, have exchanged their roles by decision of the couple of creators. At first it was thought that Rellán would play the orchestra director, a role that fitted him like a glove since he is an unrepentant music lover.
Melina Matthews, who gets into the skin of a young cellist, studied for eight weeks the technique to simulate playing the string instrument. She has had to do something similar to Resines, who has conscientiously immersed himself in learning how to hold the baton.
