outrageous punishments
A senior Chinese government official has said that Western sanctions imposed on Russia over the events in Ukraine have become increasingly “outrageous”.
Vice Foreign Minister Li Yuqing also supported Moscow’s stance on NATO, saying the alliance should not expand eastward, making a nuclear power like Russia besieged.
“Sanctions against Russia are becoming increasingly outrageous,” Li told a security forum in Beijing, noting that Russian citizens are being deprived of assets outside their country “for no reason.”
“History has repeatedly proven that sanctions cannot solve problems. Sanctions only harm the general public, affect the economic and financial system … and worsen the situation of the global economy,” he said.
