The Crimea-Kherson railway has resumed work as part of the supply of humanitarian cargo and building materials to the residents of Kherson. This was announced on Wednesday, March 23 “RIA News” Deputy Plenipotentiary of the President of Russia in the Southern Federal District Kirill Stepanov.
“Today we are talking about the restoration of technical railway traffic between the peninsula and the city of Kherson,” he said, recalling that after the blockade was announced by Kiev, this section was dismantled.
According to Stepanov, the plans are to restore traffic both in the direction of southeastern Ukraine and in the direction of the settlements of the Zaporozhye region.
Earlier, on March 20, Russian military personnel delivered over 75 tons of humanitarian aid to residents of the city of Kherson and nearby settlements.
Earlier that day, Russian Armed Forces officials organized the safe removal of 112 citizens of Russia and foreign states from the Kherson region. People were evacuated to the city of Armyansk in the Republic of Crimea.
In mid-February, due to the aggravation of the situation in the Donbass as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics announced the evacuation of the civilian population to the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence.
On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a corresponding decree. On February 24, he launched a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. As the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov clarified, the special operation has two goals – the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. According to him, both of these aspects pose a threat to the Russian state and people.
